1. Wallpaper - “Don’t Ignore Your Dreams…”

   

   This past weekend I was inspired by a quote from PG’s latest essay, /todo.html. So my friend Dan suggested that I make a desktop wallpaper of it with the quote custom illustrated in some way. The passage itself goes:

   I would like to avoid making these mistakes. But how do you avoid mistakes you make by default? Ideally you transform your life so it has other defaults. But it may not be possible to do that completely. As long as these mistakes happen by default, you probably have to be reminded not to make them. So I inverted the 5 regrets, yielding a list of 5 commands

   Don’t ignore your dreams; don’t work too much; say what you think; cultivate friendships; be happy.

   Simple and true. 

   When I was thinking about the typography for this quote I felt like it had to be something scribbled and hand-done, as though it was conceived in a fit of brilliance on the top of a mountain or in a crowded restaurant and all that you had to hastily write it down on in a fit of impassioned inspiration was the back of your map or napkin. Yes, that’s really oddly specific. I don’t know why that’s what I imagine in my head. 

   So I ended up painting the words, which took longer than I anticipated, scanning them in and styling them. And now, they’re wallpapers.
